Parnitha: Operation underway to capture and relocate habituated wolf

Authorities in Greece are conducting an operation to capture and relocate a wolf in the Parnitha region. Genetic analysis confirmed the animal is the same wolf that attacked a person in Tatoi in February.

The wolf, which was previously captured in June and fitted with a tracking device, has recently begun moving alone, approaching residential areas and hunting domestic pets. Spyros Psaroudas, General Coordinator of the Callisto Environmental Organization, noted that the animal's increased familiarity with humans has raised public safety concerns.

The operation is considered urgent because the tracking device's battery is nearly depleted, making localization difficult. The plan involves capturing the wolf and transferring it to the Arcturus facilities for veterinary examination and long-term care. Experts suggest that a decrease in the local deer population may be driving wolves to seek alternative food sources.
