Parobé and Maringá face rising water levels after heavy July rains

The Rio Paranhana in the municipality of Parobé, Rio Grande do Sul, was measured at 3.50 m at 18:45 on 29 July, down from a peak of 5 m earlier in the week. The river moved from a flood state to an alert level, prompting the local civil‑defense agency and the city hall to keep teams on standby, maintain shelters for affected families and advise residents to avoid flooded areas.

In Maringá, Paraná, the artificial lake at Parque do Ingá reached 479.44 m above sea level on 26 July, the highest level recorded since systematic monitoring began in September 2022. The rise followed heavy rains between 23 and 25 July and reflects the impact of drainage‑channel upgrades carried out since January 2025 by the Instituto Ambiental de Maringá, under the direction of José Roberto Francisco Behrend.
