Paros works to revitalize historic wine industry

The island of Paros is working to revitalize its historic wine industry, which has been a central part of its identity since the Mycenaean period. While the industry saw a peak in the mid-20th century—driven by high demand for Paros grapes like the red Mandilaria during the phylloxera crisis in France—it later faced periods of decline.

Local producers and winemakers are now making efforts to reintegrate wine into the modern island economy. This movement involves maintaining ancient vineyards, renewing others, and collaborating with local growers to ensure the continuity of traditional viticulture amidst challenges such as climate change and tourism development.
