Parque Castrelos day center implements virtual reality for therapy

The Parque Castrelos day center in Vigo has become a pioneer by integrating immersive virtual reality into its daily activities. Developed in collaboration with researcher Pablo Campo from the Instituto Galicia Sur, the initiative uses specialized headsets to provide personalized therapeutic and cognitive experiences.

Results have shown significant benefits for various users. For individuals with cognitive impairment, the technology has helped facilitate focus and engagement, such as during classical music sessions. For those with Parkinson’s disease, immersive environments—like being underwater—have been used to encourage physical exercises through interactive tasks. The technology has also allowed users to virtually visit significant locations, such as the Eiffel Tower or familiar streets, to stimulate memory and emotional connection.
