Parra residents protest stalled road construction in San José de Ocoa

Residents of the Parra community in San José de Ocoa, Dominican Republic, held a peaceful protest to demand the completion of a 7-kilometer road project that has been stalled for approximately four months.

Protesters, many dressed in black to symbolize mourning, marched to the provincial government office to express frustration over decades of delays. Community activists, including Alonso Ciprian, noted that the community has been waiting 52 years for proper transit routes. The road is considered vital for the region, as it connects local agricultural areas and provides access to potable water supplies.

While some infrastructure projects in the province were inaugurated by President Luis Abinader in late 2021, the El Naranjal-Parra section was excluded from those completions. Residents are calling on the President and the Ministry of Public Works to intervene immediately to resume the halted construction works.
