Parramatta expands tourism and arts initiatives
The City of Parramatta Council is conducting a feasibility study to establish a dedicated visitor booth in the CBD. The initiative aims to assist tourists in navigating local attractions, dining, and retail. Lord Mayor Martin Zaiter noted that visitors contribute $3.3 billion annually to the local economy, and the booth could serve as a ‘front door’ to the city, especially with upcoming major projects like Powerhouse Parramatta and the Parramatta Light Rail.
Simultaneously, the Parramatta Lanes festival is expanding its arts program for its upcoming October event. Running from October 21 to 24, the free festival expects 400,000 visitors and will feature over 500 artists and 70 vendors across 21 sites. The program includes large-scale installations, such as Snuff Puppets’ ‘Human Body Organs’ and illuminated inflatable works, designed to encourage the exploration of contemporary art throughout the city after dark.
