Parramatta plans visitor booth and museum expansion

The City of Parramatta is exploring the establishment of a dedicated visitor booth in its central business district to support its growing tourism sector. Visitors currently contribute approximately $3.3 billion annually to the local economy. Lord Mayor Martin Zaiter stated that the initiative aims to help travelers navigate the city's attractions, particularly as major projects like the Parramatta Light Rail, Metro West, and Western Sydney International Airport approach completion.

A feasibility study is underway to identify a location, with PHIVE and Parramatta Square being considered as potential sites. A report is expected by March 2027.

Complementing these economic efforts, the Powerhouse Parramatta museum is scheduled to open on November 7, 2026. Designed by Moreau Kusunoki in collaboration with Genton, the 34,000-square-meter complex is intended to integrate the city with the Parramatta River. The project features seven flexible exhibition spaces, artist residences, and new public parklands to enhance the urban landscape.
