Parras de la Fuente authorities seek to resolve water disputes

Authorities in Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila, are attempting to resolve a water distribution dispute between several rural communities. During a meeting held at Sala Madero, representatives from the San Lorenzo and 28 de Agosto ejidos expressed grievances regarding the volume of water received compared to their legal concessions.

A primary source of conflict is the current method of measuring water levels in the acequia, which relies on a nail as a physical reference point. Participants described this method as archaic and unreliable, leading to frequent disagreements. To modernize the system, municipal authorities proposed an agreement to install high-volume digital meters that would provide precise data on liters per second delivered to each beneficiary.

While the project aims to ensure distribution aligns with official decrees, progress has been stalled due to pending signatures from the San Francisco del Progreso and 28 de Agosto ejidos. Mayor Fernando Orozco Lara noted that Casa Madero has expressed willingness to contribute resources toward the installation of this new measurement infrastructure.
