Parsi New Year 2026: Navroz celebrations to be observed in India

The Parsi community is preparing to celebrate the Parsi New Year, also known as Navroz or Jamshedi Navroz, in 2026. The festival marks the beginning of a new year according to the ancient Shahenshahi calendar and symbolizes renewal and the triumph of good over evil.

In India, celebrations are expected to take place around August 15 and 16, 2026. In Gujarat, August 15 is observed as a public holiday for Pateti, the Parsi New Year's Eve, which coincides with India's Independence Day. The community, predominantly located in Maharashtra and Gujarat, observes the occasion through prayers at fire temples and traditional community gatherings.

The Ministry of Minority Affairs has extended wishes to the community for the auspicious occasion.
