Denise Woodard, founder and CEO of Partake Foods, shared the origins and business lessons of her company, which was inspired by her daughter Vivienne’s life-threatening food allergies to eggs, tree nuts, bananas, and sesame.

Woodard, who previously worked at The Coca-Cola Company, incorporated the business as Vivi’s Life LLC in June 2016. The company officially launched in the New York market in August 2017. In its early years, the business relied on grassroots marketing, including local trade shows and conducting product demonstrations in grocery stores using a demo table in her car.

Woodard noted that the company initially faced a growth-at-all-costs mentality but eventually focused on storytelling and taste-tested products to drive success.
