Parthiv Patel declines BCCI chief selector role over financial trade-offs
Former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel reportedly declined to apply for the position of chief selector for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Despite the role offering an annual remuneration of ₹3 crore, Patel did not meet the application deadline.
Reports suggest the decision was driven by financial considerations. Taking the administrative role would have required Patel to step away from his current professional commitments, including his coaching position with the Gujarat Titans and various television commentary stints. It is suggested that the salary offered by the BCCI would not have compensated for the substantial income lost from these existing engagements.
With Patel out of the race, other names such as Wasim Jaffer and Romesh Powar have been mentioned as contenders, while Pragyan Ojha currently leads the selection process in an interim capacity.
