Parti BERSAMA urges focus on Malaysia minimum wage issue
Parti BERSAMA has called for an end to political disputes regarding the minimum wage issue in Malaysia, urging leaders to prioritize worker welfare over political interests. Party leaders Lee Chean Chung and Sum Dek Joe noted that the median monthly wage for Malaysian workers is projected to increase by only RM27 between March 2025 and March 2026, highlighting the urgent need for serious intervention to address low wages.
BERSAMA criticized proposals to exempt foreign workers from minimum wage increases, arguing such moves could encourage employers to rely on cheaper foreign labor rather than investing in local talent or automation. Additionally, the party addressed debates regarding International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions, clarifying that ILO Convention No. 100 pertains to equal pay for men and women rather than nationality-based discrimination.
