Partial Lunar Eclipse to Light Up Mexico and Argentina, August 2026
A deep partial lunar eclipse will occur on the night of Thursday, 27 August, into early Friday, 28 August 2026, covering about 96% of the Moon's disc. In Mexico, the Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica, Óptica y Electrónica (INAOE) notes the maximum eclipse will be around 22:15 local time, with the partial phase beginning near 20:33 and ending around 23:51. The event will be visible across the country, provided the sky is clear of clouds.
In Argentina, the eclipse will start its penumbral phase at about 22:23 local time, with the partial phase commencing around 23:33 and reaching its peak near 01:12 on 28 August. The partial phase will conclude around 02:51, while the penumbral phase continues until roughly 04:01. NASA states that no special equipment is required to view the eclipse, though binoculars or a telescope can enhance the experience. Both nations are advised to find dark, unobstructed locations for optimal viewing.
