Partial Solar Eclipse Observed in Hlohovec, Slovakia with Astronomical and Cultural Events
On 12 August 2026 a partial solar eclipse will be visible from Hlohovec, Slovakia. The Šianec viewpoint above the town will host a public observation session from 18:00, organized by the Milan Rastislav Štefánik Planetarium. Experts will explain the eclipse, which reaches its maximum at 20:05 with the Moon covering about 77 % of the Sun’s disc. After the eclipse, observers can watch the rare “double twilight” phenomenon and a meteor shower of the Perseids, followed by a lecture on meteorology.
In parallel, the Galéria Jána Koniarka in the Trnava Synagogue will present a cultural programme titled “Homage to Darkness – Eclipse in the Synagogue”. The event includes guided tours of current exhibitions, performances by artists such as András Cséfalvay, Gabriela Šaturová, Natália Sýkorová and Oliver Torr, and a multimedia show linking the celestial event with contemporary art. Director of the Trnava Regional Office, Peter Kadlic, said the eclipse “offers a unique moment to pause everyday life and enrich the evening with both scientific and artistic experiences.” Parking for the Šianec site is not available for the public.
