MERCOSUR nations hold regional exchange on agroecology

Representatives from six countries—Uruguay, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Chile, and Ecuador—met in Montevideo for a regional exchange focused on agroecology within the MERCOSUR framework.

Organized by the Specialized Meeting on Family Farming (REAF), the three-day event addressed public policies, bio-inputs, and appropriate seeds for family, peasant, and indigenous agriculture. The forum, supported by the FAO and the Confederation of Family Producer Organizations of the Enlarged Mercosur, aimed to strengthen institutional capacities and identify financing mechanisms tailored to small-scale producers. The meeting concluded with a consensus on a regional agroecology action agenda.
