Ceuta migration crisis: PP criticizes Sánchez for staying at La Mareta
The Spanish opposition party, Partido Popular (PP), has issued sharp criticisms against Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez regarding the ongoing migration crisis in Ceuta. Jaime de los Santos, the PP's Vice Secretary for Education and Equality, accused Sánchez of remaining 'hidden' at the La Mareta official residence in Lanzarote instead of personally managing the situation.
The PP claims that over 80,000 Moroccan citizens entered Spain via Ceuta approximately 16 days ago. The opposition has urged the Prime Minister to travel to the autonomous city to establish a 'single command' for crisis management, a request also made by the president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas.
Further tensions involve international relations and EU policy. The PP noted that 22 EU member states have signed a letter describing Sánchez's migration policies as a threat to the Union. Additionally, Morocco has criticized the Spanish government, alleging that bureaucratic hurdles are preventing the repatriation of minors. The PP has also criticized the performance of various ministers, including Margarita Robles and Fernando Grande-Marlaska, regarding their handling of the crisis.
