Partido Popular proposes immigration law reform for Ceuta and Melilla

The Partido Popular (PP) has submitted a proposal to the Spanish Senate to reform the Immigration Law, specifically aiming to strengthen the special border rejection regime in Ceuta and Melilla. The initiative seeks to ensure that the regime applies to any attempt at irregular entry, including those made by swimming.

The proposed amendment to Organic Law 4/2000 would allow for the rejection of foreigners detected or intercepted at the land or maritime borders of both cities to prevent illegal entry. The PP argues that the reform is necessary because the method of entry—such as sea crossings—should not exempt individuals from the rejection regime, as current methods are increasingly used to bypass external border controls.
