Partido Revolucionario Moderno announces new leadership

The Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) in the Dominican Republic has appointed its new leadership authorities. The new structure includes Luis Abinader as president, Deligne Ascención as First Vice President, Juan Garrigó Mejia as General Secretary, and Gloria Reyes as Organization Secretary.

Critics of the process argue that the selection was a top-down distribution among key figures, including Abinader, Hipólito Mejía, and David Collado, rather than a democratic election involving primary votes or base participation. This approach has raised concerns regarding the party's internal legitimacy and its ability to maintain grassroots support.

In the diaspora, specifically in New York, PRM militants have expressed feelings of abandonment. Local members report that they face significant financial and physical challenges to maintain the party's international presence, often self-funding activities and operating under different logistical realities than the domestic structure in the Dominican Republic.
