Local political disputes and social trends emerge across Spanish municipalities

Various local political developments and social issues are being reported across several Spanish municipalities. In Alcoi, the Partit Popular has denounced the abandonment of urban gardens on Teodor Llorente street, citing a lack of maintenance. Meanwhile, in Alcoi, the Poble Actiu group has criticized the municipal government for increasing spending on aesthetic projects, such as Christmas lighting and festivals, ahead of the 2027 elections, rather than addressing housing and public services.

In Santa Coloma de Gramenet, official data shows an 8.5% reduction in crime during the first half of 2026, with conventional crime dropping by 9.8%. This includes significant decreases in burglaries and sexual offenses. In another municipality, the Partit Popular has called for stricter inspections to prevent fraudulent residency registrations, which they claim can impact social aid and municipal taxes.

In Castelló d’Empúries, Aliança Catalana has proposed a ten-year recovery plan for the Delta Muga area to address urban decay, illegal occupations, and lack of maintenance.
