Partito della Rifondazione Comunista to protest electoral law changes

The Partito della Rifondazione Comunista has announced a protest in front of the Senate to oppose a proposed change to the electoral law. Maurizio Acerbo, the party's national secretary, criticized a provision inserted by Fratelli d'Italia into the Meloni government's platform.

The contested rule would increase the number of required signatures to at least 450,000 for parties not currently represented in Parliament to participate in elections. Acerbo argues this threshold is unconstitutional and creates an unreachable barrier for smaller parties, while existing parliamentary parties remain exempt. He characterized the move as an attack on democratic equality and called upon the President of the Republic to intervene.
