Partito Democratico faces criticism over leadership and policy timing

Editorialist Paolo Mieli has criticized the Italian Democratic Party (PD) regarding its leadership and political strategy. Speaking on La7, Mieli expressed dissatisfaction with the party's timeline for developing its upcoming electoral program, noting that work is not scheduled to begin until September.

Mieli argued that the party must immediately address critical issues, specifically its stance on Russia and European defense policy, rather than focusing on secondary topics like wealth taxes. He further criticized PD Secretary Elly Schlein, suggesting her leadership has been absent during the summer months and questioning her ability to manage the party's current challenges.
