Partito Democratico positions Elly Schlein for leadership primaries
The Italian Democratic Party (PD) has held a National Assembly where it decided to postpone its congress until after the upcoming general elections. During the assembly, Elly Schlein emerged as the sole candidate for the coalition's leadership primaries, a move intended to define who will lead the center-left toward the Prime Minister's office.
Regional leaders, including Piero De Luca of Campania, have emphasized party unity and the goal of building a progressive alternative to the current center-right majority. The party's proposed agenda focuses on key social and economic issues, including labor, healthcare, education, security, housing, youth, and sustainable development.
Local party branches, such as the PD circle in Vazzano, have expressed strong support for Schlein's leadership and the national party's direction. These local groups are already looking toward future administrative challenges, including the 2027 municipal elections, by focusing on issues like the defense of public healthcare and the prevention of depopulation in small villages.
