Partizanska Drežnica marks 85th anniversary of liberation

Commemorations were held to mark the 85th anniversary of the first liberation of Partizanska Drežnica. The event drew approximately three hundred participants from Croatia and Slovenia.

Former Croatian President Stjepan Mesić attended the ceremony, where he addressed the importance of historical education and criticized political figures for failing to acknowledge anti-fascist facts. Mesić specifically noted the rise of political rhetoric that utilizes symbols associated with the Ustaše regime.

The event included wreath-laying ceremonies at the Partizans' hospital in Tomići and an exhibition titled ‘Put svile’ (Silk Road), organized by the Chinese Embassy in Zagreb in cooperation with the Croatian-Chinese Friendship Society. Attendees included Chinese Ambassador Qi Qianjin and representatives of President Zoran Milanović.

In a separate reflection on regional history, discussions emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of the Serbian people's experiences in the Krajina region during the 1990s, noting that historical tragedies and individual fates often remain unrecorded in mainstream media.
