PAS targets four seats in upcoming Sarawak election
Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) Sarawak has proposed contesting four seats in the upcoming 13th Sarawak state election. The party is specifically targeting the Samariang, Sebuyau, and Beting Maro constituencies, with a fourth seat in either the Bintulu or Sibuti parliamentary areas currently under consideration.
PAS Sarawak commissioner Mohammad Arifiriazul Paijo stated that candidates have been shortlisted and election machinery is being prepared. While the party is discussing potential cooperation with other political entities, it intends to contest the three identified state seats regardless of whether a coalition is formed.
The move follows PAS's recent success in Sabah, where the party won its first-ever seat in East Malaysia. In the 2021 Sarawak polls, PAS contested only the Beting Maro seat. The party currently maintains approximately 10,000 members in Sarawak, including 1,000 members from its non-Muslim wing.
