Pasažieru vilciens plans to lease Baltic trains for Daugavpils routes

AS Pasažieru vilciens (PV) is planning to lease up to three trains from Estonian operator Elron and Lithuanian operator LTG Link to enhance regional services to Daugavpils. The proposed four-year agreement, with a maximum value of 10.5 million euros, aims to provide late-evening and early-morning services between Riga and Daugavpils, as well as a potential Vilnius-Daugavpils connection.

This initiative follows successful electrification projects in Latvia that have increased passenger numbers. PV Chairman Raitis Nešpors noted that the goal is to make intercity regional travel more attractive by replacing older diesel units with newer rolling stock.

Separately, PV is managing service disruptions caused by a severe storm. On the Skulte line, bus replacements are being organized between Saulkrasti and Skulte to maintain connectivity while Latvijas dzelzceļš repairs infrastructure and contact networks. Normal rail services on several other lines, including Tukums, Jelgava, and Liepāja, are expected to resume following repairs.
