Pasaman flash flood leaves one person missing in West Sumatra
A flash flood struck Nagari Simpang Tonang in the Dua Koto District of Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra, on the afternoon of Friday, September 18, 2026. The disaster was triggered by heavy, continuous rainfall that caused the Aek Koronok and Batang Jember Tonang Raya rivers to overflow.
According to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the flood affected approximately 55 households and 55 residential units. Two houses were reported to have sustained severe damage, and five hectares of agricultural land were impacted. Three families were forced to evacuate to the homes of relatives.
As of Saturday, September 19, 2026, floodwaters have begun to recede. However, search operations are ongoing for one resident who remains missing. A joint team comprising the Pasaman Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), local government, TNI, Polri, and community members is coordinating the assessment and search efforts.
