Pasir Gudang: Man and married woman detained for khalwat
A man and a married woman were detained for khalwat (close proximity between unmarried individuals) at a rented room in Pasir Gudang, Johor. The raid was conducted by the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) at approximately 1:30 AM following a public complaint.
During the inspection, enforcement officers discovered two young children, aged one and four, sleeping in the same room. The man, in his 30s, and the woman, in her 20s, admitted they were not married or related. The man claimed he was experiencing marital issues and was supporting the woman, who is currently undergoing a divorce, by covering her rent and living expenses.
Investigations revealed the pair had known each other for over a year, having met while the man worked as an e-hailing driver. They have been living together for several months. The pair were detained under Section 27 of the Johor State Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment and will face prosecution in the Syariah Court.
