Poland implements road safety campaigns and electric vehicle inspections
Polish authorities have launched several initiatives to enhance road safety during the autumn and winter seasons. A nationwide campaign titled “Your Lights – Our Safety” is currently underway, offering drivers free vehicle lighting inspections at selected diagnostic stations on specific dates through December. Police are emphasizing that improper lighting can lead to fines or the suspension of vehicle registration.
In Elbląg, police conducted the “Legal Electric” operation, using specialized dynamometers to check the technical parameters of electric scooters. During these checks, officers identified a scooter reaching speeds of nearly 50 km/h, significantly exceeding the legal 20 km/h limit. The operation also revealed that several underage users were operating vehicles without required permits, leading to court referrals for minors and fines for parents.
Additionally, local authorities in Kołobrzeg are seeking stricter regulations and higher fines for private electric scooter users following concerns over reckless riding in pedestrian areas. Other regional efforts include visibility awareness campaigns for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as educational programs for children regarding road safety and online harassment.
