Paso de Jama border remains closed due to heavy snow

The government of Jujuy has deployed emergency assistance and risk management operations at the Paso de Jama international border crossing due to severe weather conditions. Intense snowfall, whiteout conditions, and sub-zero temperatures have rendered the area hazardous.

Since August 11, the Paso de Jama has remained closed to all vehicle traffic. On the Chilean side, Route 27 is affected by ice and snow between kilometers 36 and 40, while Route 23 faces snow accumulations exceeding 80 centimeters between kilometers 200 and 235, making circulation impossible.

In coordination with national agencies and Chilean authorities, the Jujuy Ministry of Security and the Ministry of Human Development have distributed food, merchandise, and mineral water to residents and families remaining in the border community. The logistics operation involves the National Gendarmerie and the National Road Administration to ensure supplies reach the local commissioner.
