Paso de los Libres merchants challenge municipal road tax

Merchants in Paso de los Libres have filed a formal complaint against the municipality regarding a mandatory “Tasa de Abasto” (Supply Tax) collected at the intersection of National Routes 117 and 14. The claimants argue that the municipality lacks the authority to inspect and tax cargo vehicles on National Route 117, as it is under federal jurisdiction.

Local business owners contend that the charge constitutes double taxation, as they already pay municipal registration and inspection fees. They also noted that most transported goods have already undergone sanitary inspections by SENASA, making additional municipal checks redundant. The merchants are seeking the immediate cessation of the tax, the return of previously paid amounts, and the removal of the checkpoints.
