PASOK accuses Greek government of abandoning Evros reconstruction plan

PASOK-Kίνημα Αλλαγής has accused the Mitsotakis government of abandoning the ‘Evros Meta’ master plan, a reconstruction project for the Evros region originally valued at 3 billion euros. According to Manolis Christodoulakis and Panagiotis Dimopoulos, officials within the party’s environmental sector, the current government plan has been reduced by nearly 90%, totaling only 309 million euros.

The opposition claims that critical projects, such as the electrification of the railway for which European funding had already been secured, have been removed from the plan. Stavros Benos, who was responsible for the original master plan, expressed feeling ‘trapped’ and ‘offended,’ stating that a competing study has effectively canceled his original proposal.

PASOK has called for full transparency regarding the original 3 billion euro commitment and is demanding the reinstatement of essential projects to support the residents of Evros following the region's major wildfires.
