PASOK calls for Greek constitutional reform and judicial independence
PASOK officials have outlined the party's stance on necessary constitutional reforms in Greece, emphasizing the need for increased cross-party consensus. Thomas Papaliagas, PASOK's deputy head of Institutions and Transparency, argued that major constitutional changes should not be the sole prerogative of a government majority. He specifically highlighted the need to decouple the leadership of the judiciary from the government and called for revisions to Articles 16 and 86.
Regarding Article 16, Papaliagas reiterated the party's position in favor of non-state, strictly non-profit universities operating under strict supervision. The party intends to seek substantive consensus in the next Parliament to ensure long-term stability.
In regional developments, PASOK members from Larissa expressed satisfaction following the party's recent mobilization in Thessaloniki. Local officials noted high engagement during President Nikos Androulakis's speeches, viewing the turnout as a sign of party unity and determination as they prepare for upcoming elections.
