PASOK demands transparency over Mount Sinai Monastery agreement
The PASOK-Kίνημα Αλλαγής party is demanding that the Greek government release the full text of a pending agreement regarding the Holy Monastery of Saint Catherine on Mount Sinai. PASOK officials, including MEP Nikolas Farantouris and spokesperson Kostas Tsoukalas, have raised concerns that the government's celebratory tone masks unresolved issues regarding the monastery's property rights and ownership.
Tsoukalas questioned why the Prime Minister's recent statements focused on the religious character and exclusive use of worship spaces rather than legal ownership. The party argues that the agreement must be made public before signing to allow for an assessment of its impact on the historic institution's operation and property status. They emphasized that the Sinai Monastic Community is the only authority capable of finalizing such an agreement.
In separate political activity, PASOK members conducted a tour of the Voio Municipality, visiting Tsotyli, Neapoli, and Siatista. During this tour, officials discussed the rising cost of living, heating expenses, and the need for healthcare reform, specifically addressing staff shortages at the Siatista Health Center.
