Greek opposition parties criticize Mitsotakis government

Opposition parties in Greece are intensifying their criticism of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the New Democracy government across several policy fronts.

Regarding foreign policy, PASOK spokespersons Kostas Tsoukalas and Dimitris Mantzos have accused the government of failing to respond decisively to Turkish provocations and the ‘Blue Homeland’ doctrine. They argue that the administration’s pursuit of ‘calm waters’ has allowed Turkey to create fait accompli situations and undermine the Athens Agreement.

On domestic issues, PASOK has criticized the government’s handling of the fire season, stating that the climate crisis should not serve as an excuse for deficiencies in the state’s civil protection mechanisms. Additionally, the party has pledged to abolish the presumptive taxation system for self-employed professionals.

SYRIZA has also launched a sharp attack, accusing the Prime Minister of prioritizing personal political ambitions over the public interest. The party specifically criticized the early repayment of bilateral loans, arguing that the economic benefits do not reach the majority of citizens and comparing the administration's financial management to historical precedents.
