Greece faces security concerns over leaked official data

A report by ‘To Vima’ has revealed significant cybersecurity vulnerabilities in Greece, showing that sensitive personal data of high-ranking officials—including Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, ministers, and military personnel—is being traded on commercial data broker platforms.

Italian cybersecurity expert Andrea Mavilla demonstrated that he could locate the Prime Minister’s personal contact information within minutes. Mavilla stated he had previously attempted to alert the National Cybersecurity Authority without receiving a response. In response, Michalis Bletsas, head of the National Cybersecurity Authority, noted that such data is often aggregated through digital footprints, database breaches, and mobile app contact synchronization.

The leak has sparked a political outcry, with the PASOK party demanding immediate answers from the government regarding security protocols and whether authorities were aware of the exposure. The Data Protection Authority has also raised alarms, citing potential risks to national security, including targeted phishing, spoofing, and cyberattacks against state infrastructure.
