PASOK demands transparency over private university re-licensing
PASOK education officials Stefanos Parastatidis and Socrates Katsikas have called for the full disclosure of the reasoning and minutes regarding the re-licensing of Keele and York universities. The party members are demanding transparency to determine if the deficiencies previously identified by the Council of State have been adequately addressed.
In a joint statement titled ‘Private University Licenses: The Order Has Been Executed!’, the officials criticized the Minister of Education. They argue that the Minister’s public announcement that the institutions would regain their licenses within days constituted a public directive to committees to hastily reissue licenses that had been canceled by the highest court.
PASOK representatives claim the government is prioritizing speed to restore the previous status quo over careful compliance with judicial rulings. They argue that a functional state should respond to the Council of State’s findings with thorough re-examination and independent judgment rather than an expedited administrative process.
