PASOK-KINAL proposes age-graded social media access for minors

The PASOK-KINAL political party has submitted an amendment to the Greek Parliament regarding social media access for minors. The proposal seeks to replace the government's plan for a horizontal ban on social media for children under 15 with a system of age-graded access.

The amendment proposes strict restrictions for children under 13, while allowing limited, parentally supervised access for those aged 13 to 14. This approach aims to balance digital protection with fundamental rights and the gradual development of digital autonomy, aligning with European Union regulations and scientific consensus.

Beyond age limits, the plan includes a comprehensive action strategy featuring digital literacy education, teacher training, parental support, mental health structures, and annual scientific evaluations. The proposal also suggests using public digital infrastructures, such as KidsWallet, for age verification while respecting data minimization principles.
