PASOK leaders challenge New Democracy over fiscal credibility

Political tensions in Greece have intensified as opposition figures from PASOK criticize the ruling New Democracy government regarding fiscal transparency and political strategy.

PASOK spokesperson Kostas Tsoukalas accused the government of inconsistent cost estimations for political programs. He noted that while the government previously cited a fiscal space of 1 billion euros regarding the 13th pension, it later increased that figure to 2.2 billion euros. Tsoukalas argued that the administration uses 'creative accounting' to minimize the perceived costs of its own proposals while inflating the costs of opposition policies.

Separately, former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras addressed his party's direction, describing PASOK as a competitor rather than an opponent to other democratic forces. Tsipras outlined a goal to defeat Kyriakos Mitsotakis and form a government, stating that if a coalition cannot be formed with the democratic opposition, the country would head to new elections. He also addressed past political conflicts and the party's ideological manifesto.
