PASOK MPs raise questions in Greek Parliament regarding taxation and public spending
Members of the PASOK-Movement for Change party have submitted parliamentary questions addressing two distinct fiscal issues in Greece.
First, MPs Paris Koukoulopoulos and Stefanos Parastatidis have raised concerns regarding the taxation of additional research compensation for university faculty members. They argue that the current tax framework may impose burdens exceeding 20%, which could discourage participation in funded research projects. The MPs are requesting that the government consider a flat tax rate of up to 20% for these specific research earnings, similar to the tax treatment of medical staff allowances, to better support academic research and funding attraction.
Second, MPs Anastasios Nikolaidis and Ioannis Tsimaris have questioned the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport regarding the allocation of 82.7 million euros for compensations to Nea Odos S.A. The inquiry highlights a lack of transparency concerning the specific causes and breakdown of these payments related to the Ionian Highway and other road concessions. The MPs noted that the decision does not specify the events of state liability that justify the amount, nor does it clarify if the funds cover existing or future obligations.
