PASOK officials meet with Elliniko Metro regarding Thessaloniki Metro issues
Officials from the PASOK political party met with the management of Elliniko Metro S.A. in Thessaloniki to discuss operational issues and delays in repairing technical faults within the Thessaloniki Metro system.
During the meeting, held at the Pylaia depot, PASOK representatives sought clarifications regarding recurring malfunctions and the speed of their resolution. Dimitris Sarigiannis, PASOK Infrastructure Secretary, noted that the Thessaloniki Metro operates under a different model than Athens, with operation and maintenance contracted to a provider for eleven years. He emphasized that the state could accelerate repairs by strictly enforcing the contract, including mechanisms to reduce the contractor's fees if maintenance terms are not met.
Party members also raised questions regarding whether the metro was fully tested before being handed over, noting that the original constructor is involved in repairs during the initial three-year guarantee period. Additionally, representatives called for the finalization of a unified ticketing system to improve service.
