PASOK says abolition of school committees is not a reform

The PASOK – Movement for Change party issued a joint statement, signed by MP Stefanos Parastatidis and Deputy Secretary of Special Education Sofia Poulopoulou, asserting that the government’s decision to abolish school committees does not constitute a reform. The party noted that the committees had “served public education for more than a century” and were a long‑standing mechanism for local financial and administrative support of schools.

PASOK criticised the New Democracy government for choosing to eliminate the committees and concentrate all responsibilities in municipalities without providing the additional funding and resources needed. The party called for a substantial increase in public education financing, continuity of institutional support, stronger accountability, and real resources for local authorities to benefit students, teachers and parents.
