PASOK spokesperson Kostas Tsoukalas addresses social inequality and unrest
Kostas Tsoukalas, spokesperson for the PASOK–Movement for Change party, addressed the causes of social unrest during recent interviews. Referring to protests in France and broader European trends, Tsoukalas argued that such movements are driven by significant inequalities, including the high cost of living, housing issues, and deficiencies in public education.
Tsoukalas stated that the solution for social peace lies in political responses to inequality, such as inclusive growth, wage increases, and wealth distribution. While noting that PASOK participates in peaceful social demonstrations, he condemned the property damage and looting seen in some French protests, stating that such actions by extremist forces discredit social struggles.
Additionally, Tsoukalas criticized the ruling New Democracy party, accusing it of attempting to create a narrative of domestic danger to gain political advantage. He suggested the party is attempting to create a false dichotomy involving the Hellenic Police to undermine the credibility of PASOK.
