PASOK unveils six‑point education reform plan in Greece

At a PASOK‑Movement of Change forum titled “Education changes (s) in Greece: PASOK proposal” held in the Athens Concert Hall on 15 July 2026, party leader Nikos Androulakis presented a six‑point programme for Greek education. The proposals call for:

1. Stronger teacher support – higher salaries, a 13th month, permanent contracts, housing assistance and improved working conditions. 2. Creation of a real full‑day school with a unified curriculum covering arts, sport, music, theatre, digital skills and language certification. 3. Additional funding for schools in under‑served, remote or disadvantaged areas and expanded special‑education services. 4. Introduction of a national diploma to replace the current examination system. 5. Strengthening public universities and permitting the establishment of non‑profit, non‑state universities under a constitutional amendment to article 16. 6. Modernisation of technical and vocational education with updated workshops, apprenticeships and rapid certification.

Androulakis criticised the current government for increasing private costs for families, under‑funding schools, inadequate university facilities and the creation of a university police force. Former prime minister and PASOK founder George Papandreou also addressed the gathering, urging a revision of article 16 to allow non‑profit university models while forbidding profit‑driven institutions, and warned that artificial‑intelligence developments require universities to foster critical thinking, creativity and democratic responsibility.

The event also covered topics such as digital schooling, artificial intelligence, green schools, anti‑bullying measures and inclusive education.
