Pasorapa livestock faces crisis due to severe drought
A severe drought in Pasorapa, Bolivia, is causing significant livestock losses and threatening the livelihoods of approximately 1,500 residents. The lack of rainfall has caused water reservoirs to dry up and created a critical shortage of forage, forcing producers to rely on dwindling supplies of prickly pear cactus to sustain their animals.
Local reports indicate that cattle are becoming trapped in mud while searching for water in dried-up lagoons. In the Cañón de Pérez sector, livestock deaths and critical injuries have been recorded. The crisis is compounded by a lack of resources; Pasorapa Mayor Alverth Pedrazas noted that the municipality is struggling to respond, as two of its three water tankers are currently out of service, leaving only one 12,000-liter tanker to meet the high demand.
Community members and local leaders are calling on departmental and national authorities for urgent assistance, specifically requesting water tankers and technical support to prevent further economic devastation in the region.
