Pasqal partners with US firms to use quantum computing for rare earth separation

Pasqal, a Paris-based quantum computing company, is partnering with USA Rare Earth and Riven Systems to utilize quantum computing and artificial intelligence to optimize the separation and processing of rare earth elements. The collaboration aims to increase the efficiency of extracting usable materials from existing resources outside of China.

By combining quantum computing with rapid chemical testing, the initiative seeks to model complex chemical systems and molecular structures more accurately. This approach addresses the challenge of separating rare earth elements, which are typically found mixed with other minerals rather than in isolation.

Pasqal CEO Wasiq Bokhari noted that improving even a single stage of the separation process could significantly increase final yields. The project is intended to reduce reliance on foreign-controlled supply chains, which are critical for defense systems, advanced electronics, and other high-tech industries.
