Pasquasia mine faces potential conversion to asbestos disposal site

Marco Greco, the President of the Enna City Council, is calling for clarity regarding the future of the Pasquasia mining site following reports that the Sicilian Region may be interested in converting the area into a permanent asbestos disposal site for the entire region.

While there has been no official communication between the Sicilian Region and the Municipality of Enna, the possibility has caused significant alarm. Pasquasia is a notable site of industrial archaeology that was once a major global supplier of potassium salts and a primary employer for the provinces of Enna and Caltanissetta before its closure in 1992. The area previously underwent a major reclamation project authorized by the Sicilian Region in 2012.

Greco announced plans to propose a City Council meeting at the Pasquasia site following the summer break. He intends to invite all potentially involved regional institutions to ensure that the community is informed and that the regional administration's intentions are made public.
