Passenger boats collide on Brahmaputra River in Assam

Two mechanised passenger boats carrying more than 100 people collided at Bahari Ghat on the Brahmaputra River in the Barpeta district of Assam. The incident occurred when an incoming vessel, arriving from the southern bank, reportedly lost control and rammed into a stationary boat that was in the process of boarding passengers.

Several passengers sustained injuries during the collision and were transported to Chenga Model Hospital for medical treatment. Following the accident, allegations surfaced that neither vessel was equipped with life jackets, prompting concerns regarding compliance with water transport safety regulations in the region. Both boats reportedly departed from the ghat shortly after the incident.
