Passo del Muraglione: historic mountain pass and motorcycle hub
Passo del Muraglione is a historic mountain pass in the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines, situated at 907 meters. It serves as a border between the Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna regions, connecting San Godenzo in Florence to San Benedetto in Alpe in Forlì-Cesena.
The pass derives its name from a massive stone wall erected in 1836 by Grand Duke Leopoldo II of Tuscany. This structure was designed to protect travelers and carriages from violent wind gusts along the state road.
Today, the area is a major destination for motorcycle enthusiasts, with the Bar Il Muraglione serving as a prominent meeting point. The location has hosted famous riders such as Valentino Rossi, Andrea Dovizioso, and Marco Melandri. During the summer, the pass attracts thousands of visitors.
The pass is also a gateway to the Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona, and Campigna National Park. It features several hiking routes, including the Sentiero 00, the Grande Escursione Appenninica (GEA), and the Cammino di Dante.
