Password reuse risks drive push for passkey adoption
A recent survey by Trend Micro reveals that over 80 percent of web service users reuse passwords across multiple platforms, leaving them vulnerable to account list attacks. Approximately 30 percent of users still rely on analog methods, such as paper notes, for management.
Experts suggest that password length is the most critical factor for security, recommending at least 12 characters. To create strong yet memorable passwords, users can combine initials from phrases with numbers. However, information easily found on social media, such as pet names, birthdays, or phone numbers, should be avoided.
To mitigate these vulnerabilities, there is a growing movement toward adopting passkeys. Passkeys utilize biometric authentication to protect against phishing attacks. While effective, full-scale implementation faces challenges regarding integration with existing systems and managing access if a user loses their device.
