PASTEF party challenges Senegal's electoral process and government delays

The political party PASTEF-Les Patriotes has formally denounced the rejection of its administrative requests regarding the preparatory process for upcoming territorial elections in Senegal. The party claims that the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security is using an erroneous interpretation of the Electoral Code, specifically articles L. 236 and L. 269, to avoid setting a mandatory election date.

PASTEF argues that the legal framework requires a specific sequence: a decree fixing the election date must be issued before the order determining the security deposit amount, which itself must be set 150 days before the vote. The party also criticized the National Autonomous Electoral Commission (CENA), accusing it of failing to exercise its oversight duties as mandated by articles L. 6 and L. 13 of the Electoral Code.

According to the party, the current administrative stance allows the executive branch to potentially delay the elections illegally. PASTEF has called on the President of the Republic to provide a public explanation regarding any deviations from the legal deadlines and to clarify the reasons for the absence of an official election date.
